What's all this then?

I have long believed that what happens in the Texas legislature is a guidebook for what the Republican party is going to try next on a national level, so it’s instructive to watch what they do every session, which is why I started this newsletter in 2025.

It is now November 2026 and so much has changed. I was dreading another slog down this road, but now? NOW? Democrats are in charge, baby! After decades of horrors, we control every statewide office and the Texas House. This lege session is going to be WILD.

This newsletter mostly focuses on Houston-area electeds in the legislature and what they’re up to.

I reserve the right to write about other Houston-related shenanigans.

About me

Hi, I’m Sara Cress. I was a music writer at the Houston Chronicle, then I was laid off, then I became a social media producer at CenterPoint Energy until Hurricane Harvey flooded my house and changed the direction of my life. I started a freelance social media business, with clients like Harris County Elections, One Breath Houston, Gulf Coast AFL-CIO, and supported winning campaigns for Houston City Controller Chris Hollins, Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia, among others.

I have also been a poet. Such is life.
